This review highlights the considerable clinical extent and importance of muscle dysfunction in cancer patients across all stages and diagnoses. The causes include a range of tumor, therapy- or lifestyle-related factors. Against this background, exercise training may be a potent intervention for maintaining and/or improving muscle mass, strength and metabolism during and after cancer treatment.
