Lidia Schapira, chair of a session on iron and cachexia at TAO, talks about the importance of assessing iron stores in cancer patients and treating them, if necessary, with intravenous iron preparations, which are safe and easy to administer. Further topics: How to avoid and treat cachexia and muscle loss, the latter being even more important to avoid further debilitation of cancer patients, and how to raise awareness among oncologists for the individual needs of the patients.
