TAO15- J-Y PIERGA - New therapies and supportive care in breast cancer-HD

The first presentation of the session dedicated to “New therapies and supportive care in breast cancer” is by Dr. Jean-Yves Pierga. He presents a short historical survey of targeted therapies and provides an overview of breast cancer types according to receptor status. He then reviews several new drugs, explaining their mechanisms of action and presenting data from several trials. Special focus is given to the drugs’ side effects as well as options for managing them. The following drugs are discussed in this presentation:

  • Everolimus

  • Palbociclib, a CDK (cyclin-dependent kinase) inhibitor

  • Pertuzumab

  • T-DM1 (Trastuzumab emtansine)

  • Lapatinib, with special focus on diarrhea and rash

  • Neratinib

  • Bevacizumab in HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer

  • Pembrolizumab in triple-negative breast cancer
